Does CEI perform repairs on rowing shells and kayaks?

Composite Engineering Inc. provides repair services for all of our boats and products. At Composite Engineering, our repair work is second to none. No matter what type of damage your shell has sustained, we can fix it so it looks brand new and regains its structural integrity.

Due to limited staffing we are currently focusing on Van Dusen shells and kayaks with major damage, for example due to collisions or tree limbs falling on boats. We no longer take on small repairs and complete repainting that can be done by other repair shops. When requesting repair services, please send an email with a detailed description of the issue and include photos, if possible.

We recommend repair services at Inriver Tank and Boat in Concord, Massachusetts, and Saratoga Small Craft in Saratoga Springs, New York.

How to deal with dings and scratches

By |2026-02-19T19:37:23+00:00March 1st, 2014|Categories: , |0 Comments

The finish of your new Van Dusen racing shell or kayak is either two part polyurethane or epoxy gelcoat. It was sprayed into the mold before we constructed your boat. It is bonded into the outer layer of fiberglass during the heat and pressure curing process in our autoclave and is extremely durable. Minor scratches can be repaired with standard automotive polishing compound. Major scratches, usually the result of surprise meetings with a log, rock or dock, may require filling with epoxy to retain a perfect hull finish.
